Disco Kroger (Blogophilia 14.23)

Image
It finally happened.  The Disco Kroger Has Closed Atlanta's most notorious grocery store finally succumbed to high-rise development.  It was a good life, as far as stores go. A 24 hour pickup bar for years. The most convenient place to get munchies for when the dancing was done and other liberties began.  It got its name from The Limelight and continued its reputation through Ruperts and the Buckhead Saloon.  Some people like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past , though. It makes them more money.

Gossamer Wings

Gossamer wings with a velvet touch A slip of a faerie in my sleep Silken umber curls draping across my chest. Where have come from Flying in from the night? Sadness drifts away With the waning moon Knowing more than you should Knowing less than you need You leave Love and doubt in your wake.

Last Night. (GBE 2 113)

Ah, the sign we all ignored. Oh, we saw it all right. And we still had the drink. Went upstairs with that person, Whose name escapes us now. Night more smelt and felt  Than seen. Awakening we find The dog where they were.

Heartbreak Hotel (Blogophilia 18.6)

Bed is empty now. Lipstick smeared on my pants Ribbon tied on the bed post As a reminder Was she pretty? Through the bottom of the glass, Yes. Harold's came in to view As night bloomed over the ocean Weary and dry, I pulled in. Ponytail behind the bar Put tequila in a glass And my life into A spin. Whiskey voice turned my head Blond by choice and lined by sun Rode hard all her life Still looking for a Prince In this pond of toads The next was to be kissed. Sharing stories of hurt Of cheating and deceit, Hating people and loving persons Making all the wrong choices We knew there was one more To make. The room was spare In the old seaside place Ocean breeze came through the cracks. She opened the jalousies so we Could rock in time with The surf. I loosen the yellow ribbon Covering her bust And drank deeply From her well Returning the favor, we were Fighting our fears In place. Dawn cracked and she left. Had to tend bar day shift. She...

Dream (Blogophilia 33.5)

I am a sporadic dream journal-er. If I can remember a particularly vivid or scary dream I try to write it down on that night .  I know I miss details, but it is entertaining and enlightening.  And it occasionally gives me story ideas.  I sometimes wish my life were like the dreams and perhaps it is like that.  A dream and a fear .    Here is an example: I find myself on a road trip, apparently to Greensboro, NC.   But the terrain doesn't match.   It is more like about 75 miles west, like in Hickory or Mount Airy.   The couple I am visiting seems nice enough. Kathryn and I exchange small talk.   Soon, I am in back of the house, climbing a granite outcrop.   It isn't a hard climb.   When I get to the top, there is a trail.   I follow it back aways, then double back to the house. Inside the ladies are talking.  My wife claims to dislike gossip, but she is always there to enjoy it. I am soon in my car running...

Now

Another night Looking for things To express gratitude For living Came to the wrong place Here in the ether Is violence Depravity And everything against Thy fellow man. Maybe I need a change of scene.

Maggie was confused and alone.  Everything around her was spinning.  Steam rose from the pavement across the street.  Halos formed around the streetlights and they pulsed in her sight.   They were a curious design.  Copied from a 19 th century photograph, they became a symbol for a developer’s dream, to turn this former steel mill into a bustling urban center. It took 18 years, and the first two buildings opened to great fanfare.  The scene looked like the stage set for “Rent”.   But to Maggie, it had become a nightmare.   She was slumped against the apartment building.  All she could remember was dancing with that spiky red haired chick disco in Buckhead. The one that looked like it had been imported from ....Brazil.....she guessed.    Loud music and perfumed bodies surrounded her as the music pulsed and throbbed.  Boys as girls and girls as boys jumping and bumping with the beat.  Was...
