Something Off the Cuff (Blogophilia 19.15)

Meeemmmmmorrryyy.... Nah, not that one. What's the buzz, tell me what is happening.  Better, but try again. Far, far away, someone was weeping. That one, albeit no one will listen to it. It's politically incorrect in the modern world. Everyone takes the opportunity to tear down rather than build up.  Maybe things will change.  We'll see.

Gabrielle in the Sun (Blogophilia 28.9)

The little girl in the sun was Gabrielle, twirling the nerf sword and trash can lid shield in the grass between the cars and building. She didn’t want to be Xena. That was Sarah’s job. She had the dark hair and was older than her. The makeshift cape fluttered over her arms as she twittered .    “I’ll save you, Xena, Warrior Princess !”    The balcony door opened in Momma stuck her head out.   “Gracie, go get changed and we’ll head to the pool.”    That didn’t have to be said twice. She’d been waiting all day . Dropping the props, she flew through the front door. Skidding to a stop, her yellow top sailed off and landed on the bedpost. Shucking out of her pants, the mirror caught her eye. Wonder if Momma would let her go like this? Swimming nekkid in the lake was fun. She thought a moment. No, that wouldn’t work, too many people around. But, still…    A pale face rimmed with carrot strings looked back at her. She made a ...

Cub Day Camp (Blogophilia 24.6)

One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn't pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself. with the pink poodle skirt  doing the macerena.- Courtesy, Kim Herndon-Ft Drum, NY About ten years ago, I took a week off of work to be a Counselor/Den Leader at a Cub Scout day camp in Gwinnett County, about 20 miles from my home. With 120 boys registered, this was the largest assembly of scouts I had been to up to that point.   I was assigned to lead a Bear (9 year old) den that my older son was in.  My younger son was six and assigned to a Tiger Den that he ended up liking. It was one of the more challenging assignments I had ever done.In this crew, I only knew my son. I had eleven 9 and 10 year old boys, two of them certified ADHD, and I had one day to mold them into a semi cohesive unit that could work together without the death of me or some of the boys. At my home pack, I had known all the b...

Buttons (Thrusday Bloghop)

Image
The question this week is, which button would you push on your life? Rewind?  Go back and relive something?  Or maybe fix it?  Why?  Those are the experiences that made you who you are. Would I go back and marry the other girl?  No. I wouldn't have gotten my two sons.  Pause?  Every now and then this would be nice.  But that button is broken, too.  It just doesn't work to stay still. Fast Forward.  Now, I have to admit THIS has uses.  Especially when dealing with unpleasant situations.  But you have to go through those anyway.  So you might as well keep goin. What about that Eject button?  Since that stops the whole process, nobody would know how the story supposed to end. So, the Play stays pushed.  And I keep going along.
