Port Bound (Blogophilia 6.18)

On the Porch (Blogophilia 52.17)

Image
The shack was a weathered gray stack of sticks overlooking the wide tidal flat. A getaway from the real world. Jimmy and the kids fished the marshes during the day while she spent most of her time on the porch reading trashy novels and getting pleasantly buzzed. Like right now. The white Adirondacks contrasted with the dark green paint of the screened in porch. The box of wine on the table next to her. Outside, a shelf cloud storm had blown in, the wind tossing her still full curls.  Emmy came out to check out the weather, carrying her smoothie.  "Mom?"  "Yes, Sweetie." "You and Daddy have been together for a long time." Emily took a small pull and looked out at the approaching rain. "Were there any other boys besides him?" Kathy poured another glass of wine and was quiet for a moment. She'd never lied to her daughter, but this was a little personal.  "Not really. A couple tried back in high school. But they never got anywhere." ...

Quiet Night in Exuma (Blogophilia 14.19)

Quiet night in Exuma Fruity drink, cute girl Salt breeze. Water will run by The actual sun will rise and set Over the bare shoulder Iguana stares at me Multi-colored blob Crawls across the screen 150 miles out Time to go. ``````````````````````````````` I've been lax in leaving comments since we started back up. Seaside Thoughts 2.0 (Blogophilia 25.12)

Note: this is a rewrite of a story from several years ago. It fit the prompts and I wanted to go back and revisit it. The cabin was a weathered gray stack of sticks sitting squat on the bluff near the inlet. There were four rooms and a dock on the side. The boards on the porch were groaning under the breeze. It had been gracious of Jack to let him use the place for a few days. They had had their differences over the years, but guilt and shame have a way to loosen these kinds of favors. It wasn’t every day your daughter twists the knife into her ex and made you pay for it. He sat in an Adirondack on the screen porch, watching the tide flow out to sea, like his life. It felt like astral projection , this trip to Kiawah. He’d killed a half a bottle of Wild Turkey and the rest of the case was in the trunk. Somehow, he kept it between the lines and the State Patrol was none the wiser. The breeze freshened. Gun metal clouds were gathering on the northeast horizon, lightning flashing u...

A Quickie (Blogophilia 11.11)

Image
They sat on the sand contemplating futures as the full flow of the tide covered their bare feet. The sun dipped below the gray line clouds at the waters edge. “ I can see for miles and miles ,” she said. “The trawler on the horizon is where my heart lies.” “Yet, I am here”, he replied. “Yes, you are and I have a place in your heart. But my spirit must remain free.” The sweet voice echoed in his ear as she leaves. With a sigh, he opens the cooler and pops a cold one. “God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Topic- Colleen Keller Breuning Pic- Sallon Newlove Pic guesses: Entwined, Up in the Air, Cupid’s Gallery, Make a Wish, Hearts at Sunset, Jump, Floating.

KMZT (Blogophilia 13.7)

Classic Music Deters Drug Dealers One of my guilty pleasures is weird news. Using aggregators like FARK , I get my dose of the strange and scary on a daily basis. It allows me to laugh when time won't let me watch television or read.  Anyway, I was looking at the above captioned article, showing the efforts a certain unnamed Monsieur used to chase drug dealers away from his building.  The dealers were so caught up and lost in their vices , they couldn't stand it and they left.  The comments from Farker's gallery had some glorious puns over how after five minuets after the music stopped they would be back and the like. But it got me thinking. What about having this service available for the general public. We'll call it KMZT. All Mozart. All the time.  With a catalog that will only repeat itself once a year. And we'll get Charles Osgood to be the announcer. Or James Earl Jones.  But not Alec Baldwin, he's an ass. And the glorious sounds will e...

Edisto (Blogphilia 14.6)

We come back to Edisto Here to listen To the silence of the lambs. Driven by the wolves of profit To other, weaker pastures. Pulling out our wooden spoons We begin to eat our gruel It's the only thing left from Our trip in our minds.

Let's Dance (GBE 2 103)

Image
I want to dance with you Bringing the sun up And puting it to bed With my arms entwined with yours I want to raise children And grandchildren And have them scattered With my arms entwined with yours And when we leave this plane I want to rise with the sun Set with the sun With my arms entwined with yours. So pour the glass Take my hand And let us drink With our arms entwined with each other.

Storm At Sunset (Blogophilia 10.)

Image
Fuzzy memories of a beach at sunset. Your silhouette against the storm, sunlight bursting Through the top of the dark cloud Fractals of scarlet and indigo  Surround you. The call came as a mystery to me So long apart and now so near  Glorious it is my wandering  Time has come To reunite and renew To finish old business And begin some new Come to me now Let me be the sunlight at the top While you rain down upon me. While we wash ourselves away.

Blue Rising

Going up Against the sky People down below Are jealous I rise up to meet Mother Sun And look below For sustenance. As it has been For ever and a day The spring Is my call To rise up Against the sky And wake the World anew.
