Banquet (Blogophilia 38.17)

Green and gold banners Run along the rafters Round six tops await the guests The annual banquet  Parents telling the kids To make them proud And not be the Black Sheep Like the little brother, sitting within earshot A brief introduction The hat is passed Little slips of paper Telling who the Ayes have.

Back to Normal Traffic (Blogophilia 15.5)

Image
Let's talk numbers. In a normal month, I usually average 400 reads a month, which isn't too bad for this antiquated format. I have a few really popular posts, but the average new post gets about 20 reads in the first week. Since I never have monetized either this blog or the WordPress model, the fact I am not one of the cool kids really doesn't bother me.  But the last few months have been crazy. A bunch of nosy neighbors from Poland and Singapore have been passing my URL around. You have to wonder why? I'm a third tier writer who only does this for fun. I'm not writing political screeds condemning the current situation or steamy sex romps where everyone looks like Barbie, Ken, and GI Joe. I just write what it is on my mind. It might be where I sample durian fruit or fried alligator tail. Or describing my house after a power outage where I have to maneuver by candlelight. Whatever, it seems to be working. I hope they keep coming back.

Mass of Men (Blogophilia 25.13)

Image
The mass of men lead  Lives of quiet desperation They rise in the morning Work or not Interact or not Complain it is The longest day They rage to the Lord Over a lot with no control Not knowing whether They matter or not He cares or not Assuming the best Fearing the worst And in when it is all over They look to the heavens For one last time Is it true or not Is it light or not It is not the worst It truly is the best.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Topic-Michele Marko King Pic Christine Wichman Pic Guesses: Bath time, Bubbly, I am the queen, wet, kitty cleans, relax

The Picture (Blogophilia 12.13)

The pictures fill the screen News crews are arrested And attempt to suppress The negative mirror image Of what we supposedly stand for. Reprehensible behavior is celebrated As hell broke luce. We watch helplessly Cruelty only humans are capable of. Would we tempt fate to intervene? Late Monday Night (Blogophilia 10.13)

Image
Monday night and it's late. The Busch cans are stacked on the table in front of me and the last thing  I remember is  a fast food law commercial before drifting off. "Over $1 Billion recovered. Call today to get your best settlement..." ******************************************************** I find myself in a large room, maybe a warehouse. A stack of storage containers sits in the corner of the room, each contains a dream.  Eenie, Meenie, meinie, moe. I choose a pink one, the second one from the top. The effort it takes to pull it out is exhausting. I hesitate briefly. Is it showtime in my dreams? Will it be comedy or tragedy? The room goes dark. A light flickers to my right and I enter it. I am in a river gorge, Palisades Shoals. Teenagers are climbing the cliff that runs along the bank. At the base is a group of girls dressed only in twelve-pack beer cartons, daring each other to jump naked into the water. Some boys nearby overheard and began to cheer: "Show us! ...

Ode to Joy Rewrite (Blogophilia 49.12)

The red convertible’s big V-8 roared down the Turnpike. The needle was inching near 100 with the joyous sounds of Beethoven blasting into the darkness. Trashcoast Parkway was fading into the rearview on this starry, starry night. The El Dorado was a congratulation present for me, a land yacht befitting a successful guy. And the polar opposite of the black Benz I’d been riding in. That was important. No more Mickey, the lifelong dream to stick it to the man had borne fruit. I had perfected a scam, selling vulnerable women the latest super anti-aging cream. The website was a fake, though. A perfect clone of the product original where I gathered more information than their Experian account. The individual accounts were useless to my scam. Sure, there were several million dollars over the thousands of accounts that could have easily converted with no trace. That was chump change, though. I stacked a backtrace virus inside the orders. During another scam, I had found a way to skim frac...

Worldless Wednesday (sort of), Blogophilia 38.12

So, what’s the subject this week? It’s my life? O.K. How do we handle this? Let’s look in the scrap pile to see what we have: A three fourths done continuation of Morris Family stories where Kathy has her baby An erotic September-December romance with steamy details A sketch outline of a story of my lucky rock with the gold nugget An idea for a Wordless Wednesday blog: measure my life with coffee spoons . Which will it be..... Backyard Sky (Blogophilia 39.10)

Camping on a starlit night in the back yard for her birthday was Daddy's idea. Emily and her best friend Maddie were sleeping in a tent Emily's mom helped put up. And it wasn't one of those Disney Princess tents, either. They were for babies. This tent was the one Daddy used when they went camping out in the woods. Emily loved when they did. She and Daddy would look at sticks and bugs and stuff. But Mommy would get cold and complain, then they would pack up and go home. Kind of like what Maddie was doing now. "When is your mom coming out with the choc'lit. I'm cold." Dark bangs shaking under the cap of her jacket. "I wish we had a fire. Emily shrugged. "Mommy said we would set the whole neighborhood on fire. We have a blanket. " A small camouflage blanket was sitting on the ground outside the tent. Emily picked it up and they huddled together underneath it. Their breath reflected in the porch light. Emily giggled. "A ...

A little bit of randomness.(Ariana's Blog Prompt #4)

When I woke up this morning, my Facebook brought up a story about how a model posted a totally un-retouched photograph of herself in a bikini.  She was a pretty lady. Nice face and good proportions, even with no make up I would consider to be an asset on my arm. The big scream was she was considered a "plus" model at a size 10.  Folks, a size 10 is a NORMAL woman. One with real curves, like she's supposed to have.  (I'll stop for a moment so you can pop the popcorn for the comments this) I'm sorry. I'm a male chauvinist pig. Make into bacon if you wish, but I would much rather have a woman of substance around me. They are happier and more fun to be around.  Who cares if they don't look like the latest flavor of the month from the Hollywood image machine. Small, Tall, Thin,Fat... Who cares? When I got home, there was another article about one who is trying to escape her image. Jeannette McCurdy was the second lead in ICarly. She was as close to ...

Maz (Blogging Lounge #9)

High school was a strange time.   For the most part, I prefer to leave in the past, but once in a while a name will pop up that still makes me smile.   I was looking through Facebook to see if there was anybody I wanted to add and I came across Maz, a truly unique individual.   His behavior, especially towards girls would be considered harassment these days. Teachers would just sigh and roll their eyes, because his work was always done well. There just weren’t any niches to sink discipline into his thick skull. The attitude had gotten him booted from the debate team and a couple of other activities over the years. He was from a conservative Jewish family, his Grandparents having come to the US in the mid 1930’s from Southeastern Europe. They left when it became apparent that Hitler was on one side and Stalin on the other and they didn’t want to find out who was going to get there first.   The reason this piece of information is important was Maz was fluent i...

Never Again (Blogging Lounge #7)

Never again…. A phrase that makes a liar out of anyone who utters it. We say "never again" when our head and body aches after a long binge, yet pick up the bottle the very next day. We say "never again" when our belly is extended from gluttony, yet prepare double the food we need. We say "never again" when we see children starving, while we eat the meal. We say "never again" when we wake next naked next to a stranger, knowing the cold comfort in anonymous pairings. We say "never again" when we see the poor robbed of their few belongings, yet another generation of thieves are always there. We say "never again" when we see the enslaved free, but millions return to indenture. We say "never again" when we see the corpses of the latest massacre, yet the zealots and jealous  who wish domination will not be swayed.    Never again should we speak it. The words prove how utterly fl...
