Donkey Show (Blogophilia 22.9)

The first day of the Republican National Convention is in the books. Based on what I saw last night, this fiasco looked like it was put together by this guy: Doesn't he look like a political maven? Innuendo and character assassination is common in politics, but Trump and company is taking it to new levels. Trump calling a rival an embarrassment is just another look in the mirror for him. Look At Little Sister! she copied and pasted the “enemy’s” speech is just another piece of the show. Are you not (politically) entertained?   I guess it has become a flight of fancy to think there are any political leaders that care about peace...or love...or anything but fiddling while the world burns. George Carlin called elections an illusion of choice. Make the masses feel somewhat better that they think they have a (small) say in the matter. He only scratched the surface. This whole mess looks like the fight scene in Idiocracy . Our “choices” boil down to: A mi...

Richard Nixon's new job.

In a lush executive suite in Arlington VA "So, Dick, you are telling me the sabotage plan for the election is almost complete?" " That is right, Sir. We sent our best people to populate both sides." "This...Hilary...I know her husband served us well, but frankly I have never had much luck with women in power." "Don't worry, Mr. Beezelbub, she'll make my record look statesman-like before we are done." "I  hope so.You were so bad, you gave Devil's Quill a good reputation." "I'll take that as a compliment, Sir." "Now, the others. It looks like the old Jew's run out of gas." "Yeah, but he did make for a good distraction with all the old Marx stuff." "Now, on the other side, it looks like you have two of our best cancelling each other out. Why was that?" "Smoke and mirrors, Sir. The whole scheme is based on the flock being divided into multiple camps....

"Why do the Heathen rage? And the people imagine a vain thing?" The above is Psalm 2:1, for those of you who are not familiar. It seems to be appropriate for today's world. All sides appear to be heading for a collision, each side vainly thinking theirs is the only true and right way. Some using outright violence, others implied fear. The rest of us sheep stuck in the middle hoping not to get caught in the crossfire. Let us pray. EDIT: After I posted this, I found this little gem. Ann Coulter Interview Mind you, it is third party edited hearsay. But it really does illustrate both the rage and the vanity of the political class. Pharisees...all of them.

Call Me (Blogophilia 30.8)

I don't do politics or world events too often here. Frankly, as Ecclesiastes says, it is vain to do so, with only hot air coming out and nothing accomplished. But political change is like the wind, constantly blowing ill over humanity. And almost all the pain to people is self inflicted. Better save your money cause everything's moving too fast.     The circle has come around where a large number of normal folks have been displaced from their homes due to combination of human greed, lust for power and drought. And at least a few of those power brokers are hoping to sow more evil and discord by adding troublemakers to the fleeing hoard. Their hope? To take down the rivals whom they have deemed "evil" in the eyes of God. Which really means they are evil in the sight of the power brokers simply because the other side exists. This has always been the way of the world. And here on this other side, we are of two minds of the coming hoard. One group, looks upon th...

Harry Handy on the Election (Blogphilia 29.5)

Hey, Heidy and Howdy. It’s another beautiful evening here at WOFT, Old Farts Radio.   And your intrepid interpreter of all things cultural, Harry Handy is on the air to get you through this next election. And it appears we are going to need all the help we can get. Honestly, folks.   Have you ever seen a bunch of supposedly grown adults act like such children?   They get down in the puddles of public opinion and fling mud (and other things) at each other in attempt to attract the most attention.    The candidates and their minions might call themselves Elephants and Jackasses, but in reality they are just….   I recently went to Italy with Kathy, my fine, supermodel wife.   We were in Florence and we happened on a game of Calcio Fioretino.   It is a ancient game and an ancestor to modern Rugby.      I was like Deacon Andy Griffith wanting a big orange while I was watching all the fest...
