Classic Music Deters Drug Dealers

One of my guilty pleasures is weird news. Using aggregators like FARK, I get my dose of the strange and scary on a daily basis. It allows me to laugh when time won't let me watch television or read.

Anyway, I was looking at the above captioned article, showing the efforts a certain unnamed Monsieur used to chase drug dealers away from his building.  The dealers were so caught up and lost in their vices, they couldn't stand it and they left.  The comments from Farker's gallery had some glorious puns over how after five minuets after the music stopped they would be back and the like. But it got me thinking.

What about having this service available for the general public.

We'll call it KMZT.

All Mozart. All the time.  With a catalog that will only repeat itself once a year.

And we'll get Charles Osgood to be the announcer.

Or James Earl Jones.

But not Alec Baldwin, he's an ass.

And the glorious sounds will echo through the concrete and glass canyons of the cities we call home.

Maybe it will harken the return of the International Geophysical Year.

Or a more successful Spoleto.

Doesn't matter.

Just pour a cup of Java and toast the defeat of the Sounds of Silence.

Where the words of the prophets are spoken openly and lovingly.

And not to the cowed herd.

  1. Classic Led Zeppelin attracts them back... Goes to show classic in its self is not a cure all. -David II

  2. To clear loiterers from the doors of the library downtown they played classical music. I never noticed any evidence of it working

  3. I like your thought processes here! Mozart is definitely a plus! Let the music begin!

  4. Speaking as a non-drug dealer I not 100% sold on that idea, I've seen it tried in a few public buildings and it didn't seem like it worked. (maybe it did - maybe it cleared some??)

    1. If I remember right, it only works for a little bit and then they return once they are used to it.

      But, it's a nice thought.

  5. I was in an elevator one day and heard Deep Purple in muzac. I wanted to cry and couldn't get out of that elevator fast enough. I still get nightmares about it.

  6. You could play Mozart all day and I would be in heaven. The library being my favorite place, a combination of the two is perfect. Stormy

  7. We actually have a classical music station here in Southern California called KMZT - K-Mozart. Always has been a favorite. I love where you went with this week's theme and how you incorporated the prompts. ~barb k~

    1. I didn't realize that when I wrote this up. The couple of times I've been in Southern California, it seems like the station as glued to the Top 40 station.

  8. An interesting concept.... Wonder what would happen if they played Mozart in prisons? *scratches head*

  9. Interesting! Had I knows this when I lived in my apartment, maybe it would have driven the neighbors out. :)

    1. I remember when I was in college, I had this guy that like to play his seriously sappy music at all hours. I'd fight back with Verdi and Wagner.

  10. haha, I'd prefer Beethoven and Vivaldi myself, but Mozart works.
