The Pier is Gone (Blogophilia 31.15)

Image
The light show was going over the horizon.  A weekend stand Only that.  Two people in a lost city  Caught on the rebound Passing the time. The sea was angry.  Earrings and things bobbed with the waves.  Secret places found Promises denied Lies kept The pier was gone when he woke Washed to sea.  And so was she There was nothing to remember.  Not her name, anyway.  Only the voices in his head  Calling his name.

Mirror (Blogohphilia 14.16)

Susan couldn't sleep. She stared at the naked image in the full length mirror. The dark hair was increasingly flecked with gray, but still long and soft.  The body was thicker, belly like a bag of potatoes, a butt like one of those rivet strips to let blind people know they've come to a curb. But the shape that set men on fire was still there. The breasts were the most surprising. Soft and a little wrinkled, they still held their shape. For 55, she couldn't complain. She smiled. The weekend at Hilton Head had been his idea. She'd gone along with it simply because she was tired of staring at the same old walls. Walking along the beach, a young woman jogged by in a bikini and his eyes followed. Would it all end like Julie Andrew's character in the movie "10", with her being dumped for the Delilah? There was only so much she could do to keep her looks.  The answer came as they stood on the dock, watching the harvest moon rise over the bay. He slipped a chubb...

Random Rainbows (Blogophilia 24.9)

Image
Thick steam rose from the pebbled pavement in front of Tom’s Tiki. Random rainbows scattered here and there in the slanting afternoon sun. It was another typical Orlando summer day, but the afternoon Turkish baths still amazed him. Beginning as thin wisps, the clouds would expand out of invisible extruders, growing larger and darker as the morning rolled on. Gestation was completed right after lunch and nature’s tears would blind all that could see. He had always heard your watch could be set by them, but it wasn’t until he had spent a full summer that he realized it was true. Paradise? It had been for a while.    The bar was almost empty. Disappearing diamonds adorned the few cars in the lot. Cars played red light chicken on OBT just beyond the curb. The rain had chased the tourists into an early siesta and the chained drones hadn’t been let out of their cages yet. A bored barmaid lazily dried glasses in preparation for the evening, her tattooed arm...

Candles

Candles flicker  Clothes piled on the floor Gathering aroma Of life and love Kisses along tummy lines Teasing Rising  Toward the feather touch. Time standing still Love for itself With itself No future No past No agendas Struggling as one Until, exhausted We sleep.

A night at Calibogue. (Blogophilia 2.7)

Hunter moon throws satin light Across Calibogue Sound Lighting the empty table Cardboard cartons, fortune cookies In crumbs on painted surface. Slips of paper laid carefully One says "It's all in the stars" The other "My favorite holding Period is forever". A lipstick stained glass Sits next to a plain one Silk dress laid carefully Over the chair. Barefoot prints leading to water. The man puts his camera away. The job is done Client will be pleased.

Hero (Blogophilia 7.6)

He looks like a hero Standing behind me Crack in the mirror hides Fangs drawing innocence. A twist of fate brought him Saying he'll comfort and console In his strong arms An affair of unequals Exchanges of power And affection But never love. Vanished now into the mist Caged with his demons Leaving me cracked In the mirror image.
