Numbers Geek.

I'm kind of a numbers geek.  One of the fun things about having my blog on a real site instead of Facebook or MySpace, is I have better metrics on where my viewers come from.  I can see trends and see who my audience is.

Lately, one of my posts The Date, has had a lot of traffic.  It is a good story and I am proud of it.  But I started getting comments that had no relation to the story.  And the comments always come with a link.  I wasn't born yesterday.  And with a little checking, it appears my "fans" are in Slovenia.  Sorry, script kiddies, you come of like this.

Needless to say, the comments end up in the Spam can.

I think you need to find another target.

  1. on wordpess my spam goes into spam sometimes real comments come in there too so I always check. Yeah fascinating which posts get read and where the people come from. I am not a numbers geek I used to be but retirement cured it

    1. The spam does get caught by the filter, but I have my notifications set up so I get an email anyway. What really tipped me off is "The Date" started getting a bunch of views in the last couple of weeks, which is unusual for one I haven't plugged somewhere. Then I got several odd comments with links attached. I went ahead and deleted them out of the spam box just to be safe.

  2. My Slovenian fans seem to like my plastic surgery post a whole lot.

    1. The target post is a nice story and I would be flattered if it were real readers enjoying it. But phishing for to see if they can make my computer a zombie bot is not what I am looking for.

  3. I've had a rash of total gibberish for comments lately on my blogspot. Of course they went straight to spam. I wouldn't click one of their links on a bet! They also seem to have found my email addy. I get and delete a lot of mail - unopened... I hate the spam!

  4. Hmm... Latvia now. Slovenia and Germany before. I just wish I got paid for the clicks.

  5. I think I've been lucky--or perhaps unlucky? I haven't had that special piece yet that attracted the Slovenians. In a way that's good because I'm not getting a whole bunch of spam!! But does that mean my writing doesn't measure up? LOL.

    I'll settle for no spam!

    Cheers, Jenn

    1. I love they include their links with their messages. I don't need real estate in Turkey.

  6. I'll take the spammers over the trolls any day! I get a bunch, too. The most popular one I did was "Values", which got very FEW hits from actual readers. Like maybe 20 people read it and a couple of comments...but the spammers LOVED it and the content was very exciting! But I didn't visit their attached link. I'm kinda rude like that.
